I am the HST for Seattle, WA (Secrets), as well as Silverfang TM

1) Briefly list any Previous ST Staff experience in any LARP or Tabletop setting. Also include any general Gaming experience or Administrative experience you possess that you feel would be relevent?

I am currently the Head Storyteller for the Seattle Chronicle that joined TGN as well as having served in Twin Cities (St. Paul) as a Storyteller a number of years ago.  I have also been a TM for the Org for Rare and Unique (R&U), Glasswalkers, and most recently Silverfangs.  I was an ST in OWbN with the Vampire game in the Twin Cities as well.  As for general gaming experience, I have been a storyteller/dm for everything from Dungeons and Dragons, to Shadowrun and Ars Magica.  Rifts, Heroes, Mage, Mummy, Eastern games and Western games.  You name it and I’ve likely run it or at the very least played it!   Administratively, I’m currently going back to school for my Bachelors in Business Administration.  I am learning and perfecting my time management skills as well as my communication skills.  Many of my classes are online so this is actually a strength.  I have plenty of email access at home and at school so I can and do have a very rapid response time when it comes to email.  I’ll end there, just to try and keep this brief.

2) How long have you been playing in TGN, and give a brief assessment of your knowledge about our current shared universe?

I have been playing in TGN since its inception.  I would say that I have a very very strong grasp of the current shared universe.  As a player I’ve been involved very intimately, and as a TM and an ST I’ve gotten the chance to really grasp many of the plotlines that have affected the Org.  Having been in the Org for so long, I’ve also made a lot of friends throughout the games, so I have gotten to hear stories of how things have gone and how they are currently going.  As a TM and an ST I speak with the other ST’s and TM’s quite a bit, collaborating on plot as well as just getting an idea of where things are headed.  I also make a point to talk to players see what they’re thinking, what they like and dislike, just because I’m a curious person and like to know things.

3) Tell us what you feel are TGN's two greatest strengths as an org, and why:

I think the absolute greatest strength of the Org is that everyone is playing for the same reason.  We’re all trying to have fun telling stories, and living them.  Acting them out for our own enjoyment as well as the people around us is something I think that all of us can get behind.  Even though we don’t always agree on how to go about this, as long as we keep that idea, that this is a game we all do for fun, I think that we’re on the right path.

The other strength I think is honestly going to be the Storytellers and TM’s.  The people who volunteer their time and effort to make a game for the players to enjoy are a huge asset and strength to our organization.  I’m not trying to suck up or self-aggrandize honestly.  Having been a player, a TM, and a Storyteller though, I can really say that it’s true.  It’s hard to go through and do your routine all week, and then sit down and come up with scenarios, plotlines, thoughts and the rest to help enhance your game.  Or sit down and work with different players and storytellers across the Org to try and make your tribe as good as it can be, and let players experience that side of things.  So I have to say it’s a strength of our Org that we have a lot of really great, creative people working towards making this shared universe work.

4) Tell us what you feel are TGN's two greatest weaknesses or issues as an org, why, and how you hope to address them:

Right now the biggest weakness I see is ST Communication.  This encompasses a lot of problems that we’re having but I’ll try and be brief.  ST’s across the Org need to work better together.  We need to talk to each other and have a positive attitude towards fixing problems, instead of being so focused on our egos.   We also need to work under the idea that we started this Org with.  That the ST’s and TM’s can work together, as friends and fellow players, to make things better for EVERYONE in the Org, player and ST alike.  That we can trust each other to have our backs, to want to help us or to let us know when things are straying outside boundaries without being accusatory or attacking at each other.  I plan as EXO if elected, to really work with each Staff in each game, with every TM, and try and help be that voice of reason.  Reminding each other that we’re working together as well as offering my own time and diplomacy skills to help ease problems, or help us understand what each other is trying to say behind the emotional detachment that is the internet and email.

The second issue that I would address is National Plotlines, and inter-game interactions.  I think that there’s a lot of potential here if we can work together.  We’re an Org that’s founded on this idea that a Shared universe is much more fun.  I think we can better make use of this.  I’d like to work with ST’s to help get more plotlines crossing game lines.  Get more people involved with larger National type plotlines but still allowing a lot of interaction on a local level and by any powerlevel of character.  I think it’s possible if we work it out, there are so many ideas lurking in the minds of Storytellers, TM’s and players that all it takes is asking the right questions, and listening to the answers.  If elected, I’m committed to taking that step, and really seeking those possibilities out, and then doing everything in my power to help make them a reality.

5) What Bylaw do you feel is the most important, and explain why you feel that way:

This is a great question, if only for the fact that it encourages everyone to read the Bylaws again to double check my answer!

Okay, so the bylaw I feel that is most important is Bylaw 1: The Garou Nation Board of Storytellers.

I think that this is the most important bylaw, because it has Storytellers and Player Rep’s getting together to discuss how things in the Org work, what players and ST’s are thinking about differing proposals, and the idea behind it at least, is to foster communication which I think is absolutely key, and can’t stress enough.

6) Are you available and able to schedule, attend and moderate one evening-time online National ST Meeting each month?:

I am ready, willing, and able.

7) Are you committed to attend at least one Major Event game during the year to organize and moderate an in person National ST Meeting (Traditionally, this occurs at Wyalusing):

Absolutely, I will do everything in my power to attend at LEAST one if not more.

Also, as a way to help foster that fun and good natured spirit in the Org, I shall be going through my contact list, and assigning every ST and TM a custom ringtone that shall have some connection to cartoon shows of the 80’s till present.   This way I shall always be immediately aware of who is calling and be prepped and ready to help!

That being said, I am still working on them.  For now, I have only completed the one for my nemesis and his lovely wife.  So, Ryan and Carie, just so you know, because of Ryan’s incredible ability to find, decipher, recover, and remind us all of the Bylaws, you are from now on, identifiable on my phone by as “Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers.”

St’s, I shall be pestering some of you soon, to have your numbers added to my contact list, as well as to assign your ringtones as they come to me.
If any players or other ST staffs have suggestions, please don’t hesitate to offer them to me at the email or IM above.

Any Chronicle Positions Held (ST, Player Rep, etc.):

I currently serve my game, FAtE,  as it's HST and Voting ST on the Board list

1) Briefly list any Previous ST Staff experience in any LARP or Tabletop setting. Also include any general Gaming experience or Administrative experience you possess that you feel would be relevant?

I currently ST the FATE Garou game in this organization, and, prior to that, I was on staff as either Narrator, Spirit Keeper, or ST in the Swamp Reclamation OWBN Garou game for two years. I have been playing WOD since fall of 2004, and have been playing various and sundry games of many genres and publishers, since my introduction to RP as a form of entertainment that fall, and enjoying most of it. I also served as Council Rep for my game, in OWBN, and dealt with all of the administrative headaches pertaining thereunto. I have also just served a term as Child of Gaia TM. As a result of all of this, I have excellent organizational skills and great turn-around times when it comes to responding to something that needs my attention, especially online.

2) How long have you been playing in TGN, and give a brief assessment of your knowledge about our current shared universe?

I have been playing In TGN since it's creation, and in OWBN before that. A year and a half ago, I brought my game into this Org. I would rate my current knowledge of our shared universe at Medium-high, likely a 6 or 7 on a one-to-ten scale. I am aware that it is not what it could be, but I have also demonstrated that I don't have a fear of asking questions to find out something I don't know.

3) Tell us what you feel are TGN's two greatest strengths as an org, and why:

As an entity that spans a country, our absolutely greatest strength is Diversity. We, as an org, will never run out of new ideas, never be up against a wall where we will all have to look at one-another and say "I'm bored" From every game, from every group of players and STs and TMs, come fresh, and different, ideas. We may not always like all of them, but chances are, on any given day, we'd find one that a majority of people can agree on. With so many contributing minds, it really is impossible to say "Out of ideas, time to move on…"

Our second strongest positive attribute, is the passion which many of us feel for this org, our chosen genre, and the games and stories we've created. All of us, each and every one of us, is here to have fun telling, and creating, stories for our characters to live, stories for us to immerse ourselves in. We do this passionately, without a doubt.  This passion says we won't give up because things get a little rocky. It allows arguments to happen, and to get heated, sure, but it means that we all really -care-. People don't get furious about things they have no stake in, things they don't care about. And that caring is what keeps our org moving forward, filled with people who look forward to picking up what's left after the arguments have settled and forging ahead, building us, the org, stronger with every step.

4) Tell us what you feel are TGN's two greatest weaknesses or issues as an org, why, and how you hope to address them:

The first is the ease with which, when communicating over the ST and Board lists, people become hostile, angry, and offensive. This shuts down all effective communication on a topic until the issue which has given insult and/or been blown completely out of proportion has been resolved. This often, unfortunately, does cause a conversation that was at one point helpful and constructive to be derailed, and devolve into an insult war.  The easiest way to address this, would be by the EXO keeping up with what is happening on lists, and stepping in early, with a request to hold off on that particular topic, and then address the issue with  the involved parties off-list, with private emails. The EXO should be mediating disputes, to prevent them from raging into all-out flame-wars. If this proves ineffective, there is also a List Behavioral Policy laid out in the Administrative policies, that provides a disciplinary policy for dealing with this sort of issue (As 'Offensive' behavior). It would be my sincere hope that it need never reach that stage, however. I am willing and able to lend my time and effort as a reasonable and level headed voice in any debate, call all of our attentions back to why we are here: We are a group of friend looking to create a world to have fun in. Sometimes it takes a gentle reminder, and sometimes a stronger one, but I believe we can all do this together.

The second, as far as I can see, seems to be indecisiveness, in relation to whether and/or how to move forward, as an org. The reason this is a problem is that time and again people come forward, saying they feel as though they are running out of story that doesn't sound like something someone else did already. Something fresh is often called for (Even in just the form of a single, national plot, which more than half the games can get behind), but no one seems to know precisely what they are looking for, or how they want it to be. This can be handled rather easily. I intend to put forth regular calls for ideas, post my own, encourage discussion instead of dismissal of ideas, and guide conversations so that they mantain forward momentum, instead of striking against a hard point and going in hundreds of different directions.

5) What Bylaw do you feel is the most important, and explain why you feel that way:

I believe that, if we must name one as "Most Important" that I would have to chose Bylaw Five - Continuity. This is the single bylaw that holds us together as an Org, rather than group of completely independent games. This bylaw ensures that what happens  in one game, happens in all of them. That other games cannot just shrug and say "it never happened". This bylaw says, "We're an org. We stick together, even if we don't always like it"

6) Are you available and able to schedule, attend and moderate one evening-time online National ST Meeting each month?:

I am, and I have been the one to facilitate the scheduling of such meetings thus far. I would be more than willing and able to continue to do so, as well as take on the task of moderating these meetings

7) Are you committed to attend at least one Major Event game during the year to organize and moderate an in person National ST Meeting (Traditionally, this occurs at Wyalusing):

Absolutely. I look strongly forward to this opportunity. I think it is a great time for us to communicate clearly and openly about our needs as an org, without the miscommunication and delays that internet communication often brings, and I would love to be able to arrange and moderate this meeting. I hope to be able to attend more than one, and to arrange as many such meetings as possible, in fact. Communication is key, which I hope I have stressed enough by now.

As a personal statement, I would just like to state this: I believe that I have an intense drive to see the org succeed, and to that end, I am willing and ready to communicate, to bridge gaps, to be relentless, and to see that to which I set myself, through until the end. I believe that I can contribute a creative mind, the valuable resource of way too much free time, and a willingness to do hard work. With these things, I believe that I can truly make a difference. To whomever wins this election, should it not be myself, I just want to add that I am and shall remain willing to lend you my aid, time, knowledge and attention. This should not be something to be bitter over, in the end, but something that chooses the best man for the job, and lets them know who else is out there, ready and willing to help!
